"I'm doing well! I had a speaking engagement on Saturday and shared my testimony for the first time in a congregation without any shame or self-condemnation. I'm totally blown away with what God is doing in my life right now!” -Evangelist-
“God is doing a tremendous healing in my life and it began with the prayer session. Ever since last Thursday and receiving prayer I have not been the same. My emotions have been great. I haven’t experienced the depression I was experiencing prior to prayer.” RU

What is Co-Active Prayer?
Co-Active Prayer combines the Theophostic Prayer Model developed by Dr. Ed Smith and the Defiant Faith Prayer Model developed by Doug Tawlks, M.A.
Many pastors and professional counselors, who have seen or experienced this prayer process, say that the results are amazing. It has been reported to us many times that more healing happens in one session of Co-Active Prayer than in numerous sessions of talk counseling. We are not suggesting that Healing Prayer is a substitute for counseling or a fix-all experience. However, Co-Active Prayer is often an important missing piece in the process of personal growth and restoration. Some believe that all you need is healing prayer to resolve your problems. This is not our position. We believe that God brings healing and restoration into our lives through many of His chosen avenues and gifted people in the body of Christ.
We will always endeavor to be emotionally and denominationally sensitive to people from a variety of Christian backgrounds. This ministry is available to anyone who requests it regardless of their religious background.
A Typical Prayer Session:
A prayer session runs about one to two hours. There will be at least two prayer ministers in attendance. Prior to your prayer session, you will need to fill out an application form and have a brief phone interview.
- Sessions usually begin with a brief time of getting to know you and with some basic instructions to help make the session as successful as possible. Your prayer session leaders will focus on asking God to reveal his love and truth to you. Many times during the session a prayer minister will ask what you are thinking and will continue to check in with you as they ask God to lead you to the roots of any problems that you want to cover in the session. You will be treated in a respectful manner with sensitivity throughout the whole process.
It is important to note that you will not be receiving counseling from us; our goal is to create an experience where you can receive counsel from God.
The healing prayer model that we use at Life Bridge is based on the simple principle that most negative emotions that plague our lives are actually rooted in false beliefs. We may or may not be aware that we are holding on to these false beliefs. We believe that truth is what sets us free from these lies (John 8:32) and brings peace where there once was anxiety, fear, anger, etc. Most importantly, we believe that truth comes from God and that He is the one that sets us free. With this key guiding principle always in mind, the process that we follow in a Healing Prayer session is quite simple and consists of these four basic steps:
- We ask you to focus on the negative emotion that you are experiencing.
- We ask you to allow God to take you back to a key experience in your past where the emotion took root.
- We ask you to identify the false belief that you embraced as a result of that experience.
- We ask Jesus to reveal His truth to you concerning the belief that you surfaced.
Your Prayer Facilitator is trained to simply enter into prayer with you and to ask appropriate questions to lead you through these four steps. The facilitator will not counsel you, suggest what lies you may believe, speculate on what happened in your memories, suggest truth that they think you need to hear, etc. Their role is simply to help you go through the steps, get down to the lies, and allow Jesus to set you free with His truth.
More on Theophostic Prayer Ministry
TPM, as it is usually called, is a model of healing prayer developed by Dr. Ed Smith that has been around for about 15 years. In the past 5 years this model has gained the respect of organizations like the Christian Research Institute and many professional therapists, pastoral counselors and pastors. It is a prayer process that attempts to provide a space for people to receive counsel from God. Its impact is being felt around the world. If you would like to learn more about The TPM model, there are many articles on the internet. One resource is Theophostic.com. We also recommend the book, Healing Life’s Hurts by Dr. Ed Smith, a book of testimonies by those who have received TPM. Below you will find more helpful information on this topic.
What Counselors say about TPM (Theophostic Prayer Ministry)
I have been studying and practicing medical psychiatry since 1986, we have both been studying, receiving, and ministering with other approaches to prayer for emotional healing for 20+ years, and we have both been studying and using Theophostic® principles and process in our professional work since May 1998. After tens of thousands of hours of psychiatric clinical experience and thousands of hours of reviewing psychiatric literature, after thousands of hours of studying, receiving, and ministering with other approaches to prayer for emotional healing, and after 7,500+ hours of using Theophostic® ministry, 5,000+ hours of reading and writing about Theophostic® ministry, and hundreds of hours of receiving our own healing with Theophostic® ministry, our assessment is that Theophostic®-based therapy/ministry2 is more effective than any other tools, techniques, principles, or approaches of which we are aware. -Karl D. Lehman, M.D.-

Defiant Faith Prayer Model
The Defiant Faith Model was developed by Doug Tawlks, M.A., Executive Director of Life Bridge Ministries, and Dave Miller, Director of Prayer Training. This Model was developed through Doug and Dave’s experience while working with Neil Anderson’s Freedom in Christ Ministry model of prayer. It is a process of prayer that is specifically aimed at exposing core false beliefs that are sometimes hidden within the deeper part of the heart or as the bible calls them “strongholds” (2 Cor. 10:3-5) and replacing them with the truth based on the word of God. We have found that combining the Defiant Faith model with the TPM model has brought an excellent balance to the process. For further reading that supports this aspect of the Co-Active Prayer Model please refer to the information below.
Victory Over the Darkness and The Bondage Breaker by Neil Anderson.
There is a three-part prayer pattern to Defiant Faith Prayer.
- Renounce the lies we believe.
- Repent for believing and agreeing with the lies.
- Reclaim the truth as God reveals it to us.
